Colon hydrotherapy is one of the most important practices to add in on your health journey, and we do ours with a special superfood touch. We make ours so delightful, that if you are already seeing a colon hydro-therapist for colonics, you may wish to stay home now and do our version of a deep cleansing “superfood” enema. Enemas are the process of oiling up your behind, laying in the bathtub in preferably a warm comfortable candle-lit bathroom, gently inserting into your rectum a tube that is attached to a bag or crock of warm water, and letting gravity slowly and gently fill up and drain your colon several times until your whole colon has been cleaned of all matter.
In this process, two things are accomplished. First is that with every colonic, you have a chance at knocking out any intestinal plaque that might be gummed up in the folds of your colon. The exit of this most toxic debris that was continuously poisoning your body for who knows how long, is absolutely key to restoring the integrity of your body’s health. Intestinal plaque tends to be something along the lines of 10 year old pizza putrefying with heavy metals and parasites. These pockets of waste never should have been there in the first place, but because of a past of eating aberrant foods, having a stressful lifestyle and getting constipated, weird things can happen to your organs.
The second huge benefit of a deep enema is that it makes room in your intestines for an accelerated dump of waste from all the cells of your body, speeding up both short term and long term healing. If you are already healthy, but feeling a bit sluggish one day, try doing an enema our way and it can turn your energy around and give you that “edge” again as a short term healing. If you have a small or big pooch in your belly, do an enema today as part of your long term goal to flatten your abdomen and attain excellent digestive and metabolic health.
How we do enemas at our house: Instead of using a one gallon or smaller enema bag, use a 2 or more gallon jug or crock with a spigot. Slide the hose off your current enema bag and stretch it over the spigot. If it slides off a tapered spigot, wrap one or two rubber bands around the connection to keep it on, being careful not to pinch the hose. Fill your enema container up almost all the way with spring water. Prepare a pot of tonic herbs tea (Click here for a great recipe from my girlfriend The Edible Goddess’s blog). Fill the pot of herbs up with some of the enema container water with the hose. Brew until it begins to boil, then strain the tea into the container. If your tea pot is small, fill it up with the container water again and rebrew. Repeat the process several times if need be until the container water is quite warm and deeply tea colored. Add in MSM only or add in shilajit and/or fulvic acid. We are currently avoiding combining MSM with high mono-atomic mineral containing foods like shilajit to avoid the potential sulfuric reactivity of the combination. Also its an excellent idea to add in coconut water kefir, or probiotic powders of your choice (with MSM or shilajit is great.) You can also add organic coffee for great liver cleansing effects and zeolites for their heavy metal, viral and volatile organic compound pulling effects. Bring your enema container into the bathroom and place at least 3 feet above the floor on a stable counter, stool or table so that the hose can reach well into the bathtub or shower stall.
Warm up the bathtub or shower stall by blasting some hot filtered showered water. We also use a space heater blasting in the direction of the bathtub, keeping it away from any water, and leave it on during the 30-45 minute enema experience. Lay a towel down in the tub for your back and some folded towels for your head and neck. We prefer enemas laying on our back with our legs up, rather than face down on all fours. Light some scented organic beeswax candles and play some music or inspirational audio. Take your pants off, put coconut oil or any organic raw oils around and in your bum and all over the enema hose insert nozzle. Stir the enema container one final time to make sure no mineral-rich sediment is stuck on the bottom.
Lay down and slowly let the water fill you up until gentle tension (no extreme pressure holding, be gentle with your intestines), then let the water go out down the drain. Ideally you take your time with this and eventually get the water to go up your descending colon, across your transverse colon, and down your ascending colon towards your cecum where your small intestines dump into your colon. This means that quite a bit of poops and not-quite-fully digested food particles will have exited you many times. You might not be able to go this deep every time, so do a series of enemas (e.g. an enema every other day for 2 weeks) so that you are more likely to tone and cleanse your ascending colon at least some of the times.
Doing an enama our way eliminates the fears associated with enemas. We boost the probiotic content of the gut with the coconut water kefir amendment, instead of stripping the colons Bifidus-dominant colony. We keep the experience in the bathroom warm and nurturing so that you finish feeling more comfortable than ever, rather than cold or invaded. We make your body feel nourished with the uptake of the water amendments (tonic teas, shilajit, fulvic acid, etc.) so that you finish fairly balanced out, instead of deprived or dizzy. However, every enema is different and just know that the discomforts of purification will pass. Hydrate well after an enema, and then consume something light and nourishing, preferably full of your favorite superfoods.
My disclaimer on enemas: Please take responsibility for your own health and health protocol. Please seek the advice of a professional colon hydrotherapist before embarking on your own enema project. Do your first enema/colonic with a colon hydrotherapist before taking the leap to do it yourself. Do not let the water fill your colon forcefully. Be very gentle with yourself and take your time.

Christian,
Thanks for the tips but I just tried your tonic and I think something may have gone wrong… I am bleeding profusely and my anus appears to be ruptured. I am applying an algae based salve to the area as I type this, but I fear it might be too little too late. Are Nori wraps effective in this kind of situation, or should I just keep flushing the area with spring water while applying liberal ammounts of raw cacao butter?
I just want to warn all readers of this blog that Christian is censoring his blog and deleting any criticism regarding his posts. Undoubtedly this post will be deleted and censored too, but I hope at least a few people get a chance to see this post. A blog is a medium that is about feedback, both positive and negative, and to delete a post that chronicles a negative experience regarding what is being proscribed here as nutritional/medical advice is dangerous, disingenuous and borderline criminal. If you practice what you preach, you would have an open dialogue in your comments section rather than delete a post and then send a private email to me with advice on how to deal with the immense amounts of discomfort I am experiencing after attempting the colonic methods you are supposedly championing. You sir, are a charlatan of the highest order and I really hope that at least ONE person sees this post, thereby avoiding the absolute HELL I have been put through for the past 24 HOURS!
If you are reading this Christian, you are a “guru” the same way Osama Bin Laden is a “prophet.”
For everyone’s edification PLEASE read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enema#Precautions lest your ass, like mine did, “blow up like the World Trade” -Notorious B.I.G.
Caitlin, I did not delete your post. It is now publically approved. I was saving it to make sure you actually wanted to go public with your personal information after we emailed privately. You assumed different intentions. I definitely agree with you that blog comments should be open, and I am open to all controversy. I believe in what I do, and thus controversy is assumed, as I don’t edit my material to be uncontroversial. That being said, sometimes it is tricky to figure out what is spam (dozens of spam comments are automatically filtered by a wordpress device so far for every post I have done.)
Caitlin, have you ever done a colonic or enema before? Did you hold the water in too forcefully before releasing? How are you feeling now? Have you seen a local colon hydrotherapist or naturapath to get a proper inspection or treatment for whatever has happened to your inner tissues? I am so sorry you think that my instructions have caused you harm. What part of my blog post do you think could be interpreted to cause harm? Please reply so that I can adjust accordingly. And make sure you get yourself checked out to make sure there is no dangerous internal bleeding going on.
I have amended the post with some extra “be gentle” words, as well as my disclaimer at the end.
It’s posts like this that keep me coming back and checking this site regularly, thanks for the info!
Excellent job.
So I saw the post chronicling Caitlin’s unfortunate incident and I felt obligated to temper it with a positive response of my own. Let me preface by stating that I really hope Caitlin is seeking the medical treatment she desperately needs and I hope all goes well in her future colonic excursions. Also, this was my first enema experience, so I am sorry if this story is a bit boring for those a bit more experienced 😉
Now on to the tale of my first colonic journey: I followed the instructions Christian laid out in this post and was pleasantly surprised! I felt a bit like the women from that movie “The Descent,” despite the obvious gender difference. Instead of scented candles I lit a nice bouquet of my favorite blends of incense and helped myself relax with a nice steaming pot of herbal tea.
All I can is: WOW! I had no idea what kinds of detritus were lingering in my colon! Out came the standard fecal matter, but also a lot of surprises! M&M’s (a guilty pleasure from my youth), undigested sunflower seeds, and even what I presumed to be a Tic-Tac! Being new to this, my insertion method was a bit botched, and there was an initial trickle of bloody discharge, but that quickly subsided. Per Christian’s advice, I held the water as far up in my colon as I could after a few shallow practice pulls. My final release, dare I say it, felt almost orgasmic? 🙂
Needless to say, I found myself feeling IMMENSELY clean after the procedure, and oddly aroused 🙂 I will definitely be trying this again, and perhaps adding a few elements of my own to the herbal cocktail 🙂
The raw superfood warrior lifestyle FOR LIFE!
Awesome James. Yes, thank you for encouraging Caitlin to seek proper treatment, as there is only so much we can virtually help. James, I am glad your FIRST ever enema went well. And yes, isn’t it amazing what can come out. I never had capsule-looking things come out of me as you had, nor have I had worms come out, but the norm is for all kinds of weird colored things and/or worms to come out. I am sure with that “orgasmic” feeling you felt afterwords that it was your body thanking you for a much needed deep release and adjustment to a new stage of health for your organs. I am sure that your testimonial also flies in the face of the “doubters” out there who think colonics do nothing or are dangerous. My opinion: enemas are a delight, and can save people’s lives or at least accelerate healing like nothing else.
Christian,
I actually stumbled upon this site after spending a long time researching and discussing with my partner the relative benefits and drawbacks of enema usage. After deciding that maybe it might be a way to help our sex life (TMI I KNOW!!!) we drew straws and I lost… or did I? I just eased him into the same situation, this time with the benefit of my own experience from the night before, and so far all seems to be going great! We have managed to avoid the insertion method problems I had last night, PHEW! For novices: have a partner help you out. It seems to be making ALL the difference in our experience… and can be quite… fun 🙂
This last part is for Caitlin, PLEASE provide us with an update! Honestly, we are having a wonderful time with this treatment and my thoughts and prayers are with you and any other herbal, mineral-rich, colonic spelunkers 😉 Be safe my friends!
I was shocked by this comment section: I wanted to leave a comment saying what a beautiful, delightful, meditative, self-nurturing thing you are making out of enema/colonic here, and to giggle a bit about my own experience. As you know, we don’t have running water in our cabin here in Alaska. I’ve been doing enemas on a fairly regular basis as a part of my yeast/heavy metal cleanse, and had been putting teas, chlorella and other goodies into the enema water because my thought was that if it was good for me to drink it, putting it in at ‘that’ end would be a good thing too! Aside from that, there was no similarity to your luxurious environment – I wrote in my blog at one point about the amusing discomfort of having to race for the outhouse to release the enema water in a blizzard with several feet of snow on the ground! I love the idea of using a crock for th liquid.
When I started out, I could only hold the liquid in for maybe five minutes. Now, I can hold it in for a half hour with no difficulty. At no time, ever, have I had any bleeding from inserting an enema and I’m at a bit of a loss to imagine how it could have happened.
The naturopath that I’m currently seeing is definitely discouraging me from doing too much ‘cleansing’ of any kind, however, mostly because I have a lot of deficiencies due to absorption problems, some of them very long-standing and most of them due to having been anorexic for a long time (and the years of fruitarianism didn’t help either). He also doesn’t think that cleansing is good for someone with an eating disorder, for fairly obvious reasons. So that’s one caveat that I would want to add. I should also mention that I did do a coffee enema just once, about six weeks ago, and that afterwards my (already low) energy levels took an absolute _dive_. According to the naturopath, this was because of coffee’s inappropriate stimulating effect on my already-exhausted adrenals. So a person with adrenal fatigue might want to avoid coffee enemas. Otherwise, it’s wonderful how a good enema can clear your head!
I really hope that Caitlin is ok and hate to say this, but there’s something about the algae salve/nori rolls/cacao butter hyperbole that makes me wonder if that post is disingenuous? If you really had problems, Caitlin, I apologize for being suspicious like this. All the more reason to post again and tell everyone how you are.
Thanks again!
Great Ela! I’m the type who would do an enema and then have a really nourishing meal a couple hours after, so as not to even consider “too much cleansing.” Actually I have been sipping a most ridiculous superfood cacao drink while doing an enema once. I have also done Health Force’s Intestinal Drawing formula while doing an enema so as to keep peristalsis going and hopefully my cecum pumping during the deeper releases.
I do hope that Caitlin does reply, otherwise the trolling suspicion will remain.
2-3 weeks ago I ate some leftover raw chocolates that were given to me by a sweet, unknowing lady who asked if I’d like to take some home w/ me after working a raw demo festival. Going against my very first intuition, I said yes and had very few small bites (I pretty much only eat homemade raw chocolates). Unfortunately for me, the raw maca in the bar was a moldy batch (verified w/ company) and I was SICK (like e. coli / food poisoning SICK – yet it was MOLD) within 10-15 minutes. By the time I had gotten home, Christian had begun to prepare this super nutrient-dense Superfood enema for me. Although I was hardly able to stand up from being so faint (many bouts of being sick in such a short amount of time) and was seriously not able to distance myself from the toilet (and this is PRIOR to doing the enema), I was willing to do anything – you know, the ‘WHATEVER IT TAKES’ attitude – to get well.
And so, over the following days I did this enema and it likely saved my health. I was bed-ridden with crazy cramping and pain, unable to carry on as usual and was totally disheartened with regard to this experience. Had it not been for Christian’s genius idea of loading as many minerals and nutrients into the enema for me, I would have felt even more severely depleted and indescribably ill for much longer than I needed to, and I’m all about entirely removing needless suffering.
My body was still sick for approx 2 week; however, if it were not for this unconventional remedy, I have no doubt I would have suffered double that time and felt even worse. Possibly, for those new to a really pure lifestyle, beginning slowly with a less potent enema, and less quantity (of water), is the way to go. Yet, it certainly is worth a try whether it’s for cleansing or as described in my situation.
Hey Guys,
So things worked out well for me and I’ve been recovering for a week or so. Sorry for my earlier comments I was just a bit irritated if you know what I mean! Anyways, I saw a wonderful colonic specialist and am much better now. We discussed what had happened and he knew almost immediately what had gone wrong: it was the insertion method. He said that this is pretty common for first time users, and gave me a pamphlet that had some helpful tips for next time. I think I’ll try again soonish, but I need a bit longer to recover. THANKS for all the kind advice/wishes/etc. and SORRY Christian for jumping all over you! Please understand that when I posted that comment I was in a bit of a fix, to put it lightly, but your support and kind words really did mean a lot!
Hi Caitlin, glad you are feeling better. Would you do me a favor and do two things? Share how you had an improper insertion method, so I can amend my post to make sure no one else makes your mistake. And perhaps edit your previous comments to reflect how you feel now? Thank you.
Thanks, Christian: your suggestion of replacing with ‘good stuff’ right away definitely makes sense, considering the clarity that one can feel after the enema.
Bethanne – whoa, that sounds like a horrible experience. But maybe the strength of your cleansing reaction to the moldy maca was a sign of strength in itself! So glad that you were able to take care of it and are feeling better.
Very glad that Caitlin is better too, and I’m also still curious about the whole insertion method issue (and glad that I’ve never had that problem).
thanks and love.
I have to state, you picked your words well. The insights you wrote on your experiences are well placed. This is an excellent blog!
hey christian,
how about putting milk kefir in the enema. could that be a problem?
JJ, sounds good. You could also put coconut water kefir in.
thanks, of the topic of enemas. how do i get coconut water kefir. do i just
my normal milk kefir into coconut water or do i need to get different ones?
Christian, a couple of questions for you. First of all, I currently have either an internal hemorrhoid or proctitis, most likely one of these. I am a 34 year old healthy mail that knows how to eat right and supplement. Here are my concerns: My symptoms are mucus, a little blood which I think is a little clot that keeps getting pulled out with bowel movements. My movement are good but there does seem to be either inflammation or some type of obstruction that the movement has to pass and then comes shooting out. I had a colonoscopy years ago but am reluctant on getting another one. Too invasive. Are there any better alternatives to getting a diagnosis? Also, regarding enemas, can I just use oil? And you mentioned MSM. Does that belp with inflammation and do I crack open a capsule into the enema? I was thinking coconut oil, vitamin e, oil of oregano and peppermint oil. What do you think? And how much of each? Thanks for any help and feedback.
John, the solutions for you are there. It’s just a matter of you applying the right ones for you.
If I were in your situation I would defiantly seek out some naturopaths (like 1, 2, maybe 3 or more docs until you find the right one) so that you can receive more information about your situation and with this information take better action. I would do a little blood work and stool samples and thoroughly look for various systemic and digestive parasites.
You can use any wholesome organic oil/butter as an enema lubricant. For MSM look for plant-derived (capsules or free powder, which ever you prefer). Your colon and all tissues of your body require sulpher (MSM being a great source) to be nourished and able to detoxify. Oregano oil and peppermint oil will most likely burn your bum – avoid, but can be great to consume at the right dosage and time.
Fresh aloe vera (buy large organic leaves online) – fillet off skin and consume only inner gel – is a great superfood ingredient with tissue repairing and digestive soothing benefits. Blend it with water, sea salt and stevia. Or into your smoothies, or in a chia-gel pudding.
Best to you, let me know how it goes,
Christian
