This one’s going to rock your world.

The research is in: Herbal tea making does wonders for your immune system, induces bliss, cuts cravings, and builds resilience to stress. That said, most people have replaced the 5000+ year old tradition of tea making with coffee, soda and really crappy beer. But if you’re reading this you know those crappy beer days are being happily phased out because making herbal tea is SO much more creative and fun, yet just as habitually simple and energizing.

I’ve made some pretty narly teas in my days. I felt so good from them, but the bitterness factor was in the “my family won’t drink this” level. I was boiling medicinal mushrooms, roots, green leafed herbs and very sour berries like schisandra berry all in one pot. Good times, still do it.

A’hem. Look, making myself and yourself healthier with bitter brews is just a small part of my mission. But the biggest part of my mission is to make really tasty (like gourmet hit-the-spot tasty) products that everyone loves AND are just as potent and life changing as the bitter stuff! Enter: My Ultimate Holiday Tea Recipe (So good, our mom’s will rave about it!)

This tea combines 2 of the tastiest teas humanity has ever created: chaga mushroom and mulling spices. Note: The ingredients are a cinch to get.

Mulling spices are nearly synonymous with pumpkin pie spice, chai spices, and wassail (a holiday alcoholic mixed drink – “Here we come a-wassailing…”) spices. You can buy organic cut and sifted mulling spice blends or you can buy each herb individually. Try you local natural food store for a blend. The basic organic mulling blend includes about equal parts:

Organic cinnamon (true Ceylon or Cassia)

Organic cloves

Organic allspice berries

Organic dried ginger bits

Organic dried or fresh orange peel

OPTIONAL: Star anise, smaller amount of ground nutmeg, and vanilla.

I get almost all my tea making herbs from Mountain Rose Herbs.

Chaga mushroom: This mushroom breaks every rule of being a mushroom. Rule 1: Taste. Instead of the weird earthy taste, chaga tastes like vanilla extract. It actually has naturally occurring vanillin in it. Rule 2: Accessibility. You don’t have to wildcraft chaga at just the right season, you can simply order it all year ’round HERE. Rule 3: Price. When buying wild-mimicked chaga (small pieces or ground), it’s surprisingly cheap for being such a precious mushroom. And, you can brew the chaga over and over and it still keeps saturating the water with its beautiful dark brown pigments and medicinal compounds.

Wild chaga growing on a birch tree that I harvested during a trip to Maine this summer.

Why use Chaga? Chaga is the highest antioxidant whole herb ever documented. It’s about tied with the antioxidant level of raw cacao. Chaga is loaded with polysaccharides – healing sugars that rapidly improve the immune system. Chaga is the quintessential herb of Russia that Russian scientists continue to study and use themselves. Out of all the medicinal mushrooms, Chaga seems to be in second place – Reishi mushroom taking first prize in all around health benefits. Learn more about chaga and reishi in my article about them HERE.

The Ultimate Holiday Tea Recipe in 3 easy steps:

1. Place a handful of mulling spices and a handful of wildcrafted chaga mushroom (small chunks, cut and sifted, or granules) into your pot. Add spring water and simmer for 15-30 minutes or more. Add more water if brewing for more time – it’s okay to brew longer.

2. Let cool slightly (not burning hot, just very warm) and pour through a very fine strainer (or nut mylk bags) into a ceramic mug.

3. Add a tiny pinch of sea salt and a few pinches or drops of stevia extract to taste. Taste test and serve to everyone (You don’t even have to tell them how healthy it is!) for the best holiday cheer as we advance into the new year!

BONUS SECTION:

For those of you not satisfied with just chaga and mulling spices (and you know who you are), you can add in my new product Longevity in a Bottle. Simply add in 1-3 teaspoons while the tea simmers. It will impart a bit of a root beer flavor to your holiday tea but it won’t throw off the flavor. Yes, you can heat/cook/simmer Longevity in a Bottle without messing with its properties. It’s a good and fun idea actually. Enjoy!

To you taking your health to the next level throughout the holidays this year!

The herb of youth and sustained energy is astragalus root (Astragalus membranaceus, syn. Astragalus propinquus). It has been used in China for thousands of years as a whole body supertonic, that strengthens muscle and improves metabolic functions. Today, astragalus root extract has been recognized by scientists all around the world who have proved:

  • Sliced and dried astragalus root

Astragalus extracts are immuno-modulating, rich in stress-reducing adaptogenic compounds that help regenerate cell function and healing.

  • A potent extract contains astragaloside IV, one of astragalus’ most notable compounds proven to increase immune system response to many viruses and boost cell function.
  • Some proprietary extracts contain a blend of molecules called TA-65, which have ben shown to have age-reversing effects, including halting the shortening of DNA telomeres, if not increasing telomere length, which increases the potential lifespan of cells in humans so that they can divide (reproduce) more times without senescence.
  • It greatly relieves fatigue and is used by athletes all around the world for peak performance.

In my experience, astragalus provides a long-burning, happy energy with no come-down (I do not notice when it leaves my system). My body feels charged but not over stimulated, and my mind is clear.

You can grow astragalus in your own garden.

BONUS benefits of astragalus:

  • It’s a non-bitter, almost caramel-flavored herb. Whether it’s a potent extract powder, tincture, or a tea you make yourself, astragalus’ delightful flavor increases compliance (herbs only work when you take them).
  • It’s relatively inexpensive compared to some other herbs. You can get Mountain Rose Herbs bulk astragalus on the cheap (get a few pounds) so you can make your own tea decoction everyday at home.
  • A perennial, you can grow your own astragalus in your garden with just about any weather and climate condition.
  • Since astragalus is a supertonic herb, it can be used daily and safely with cumulative youthening benefits over a long lifetime.

I use a high quality potent extract of astragalus root in my formula, Longevity in a Bottle. Fans of my work are raving about Longevity in a Bottle and are super excited for it to finally be launched.

Top 7 Herbs to Beautify Your Skin in 30 Days Part 1 HERE.

5. Rehmannia

Use prepared (not raw) rehmannia (Rehmannia glutinosa) root extract for a massive revitalization of the kidneys and nourishment of the liver and blood. When the kidneys (your body’s battery packs), liver and blood are running strong, guess what happens: the skin beautifies with it’s full natural color and glow.

Get yourself the very cost effective bulk organic prepared rehmannia slices from Mountain Rose Herbs and brew them up with spring water and a pinch of stevia on a stove and simmer for 20 minutes or more until you have a dark rich tea. Serve this tea very warm. When you drink it you will feel the lifeforce activate from the core of your being and out to your skin. Hot rehmannia tea is THE most grounding elixir ever – as long as you don’t drink too much at once or it will loosen your stool slightly. 😉

Note: Raw rehmannia extracts are also great but have a cooling and slightly less nourishing effect.

6. Red Asparagus Root

Read all about this “Flying De-Stress” herb HERE.

7. He Shou Wu

Prepared (not raw, just like with rehmannia the raw is not as nourishing) He Shou Wu (“Old Black Hair”)(Polygonum multiflorum) has been used by tens of millions of people in Asia to nurture beautiful colorful hair. It deeply nourishes and cleanses the organs (which always leads to nourishing and cleansing of the skin). It greatly increases superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity. SOD is a powerful antioxidant (free radical scavenger), demonstrated to have powerful anti-aging benefits in humans.

All 7 of the above herbs + 52 of the other world’s greatest tonic herb concentrates are synergized in my new beautifying product, Longevity in a Bottle. I invite you to pre-order yourself a bottle TODAY!

BONUS Beauty “Herbs:”

These are animal concentrates that behave like tonic herbs in the body, pushing the important “buttons” that create beauty from the inside out. These are generally congruent with a mostly vegetarian/vegan organic lifestyle.

Pearl: Pearl extract or hydrolized pearl has always been considered the quintessential beauty herb for women (and for men as far as I’m concerned.) It is rich in amino acids and trace minerals which nurture the delicate nuances of fantastic skin.

Deer/Elk Antler Tincture: For most people, taking deer/elk antler tincture daily for extended periods of time (but not everyday forever) dramatically recharges hormonal and endocrine health. This in turn causes your body to communicate with itself and create a very youthful look in the face over time. Because most of us come from a background of being exposed to xeno-estrogens (plastics and chemicals that mimic estrogen in the body and displace good hormones), antler extracts (tincture is absorbed the best) may be the powerhouse that someone needs to feel and behave young again.

Ant Extract: Polyrhachis Ant (considered the “herb of kings” in Taoist Tonic Herbalism) is the highest source of bioavailable zinc ever and a rich source of human active vitamin B12. Zinc and B12 get used up by stress. Having ample supply of these nutrients will leave the skin of your face looking bright and radiant, even amidst travel and other stresses.

Royal Jelly: This is the low-sugar high-nutrient honey-like-substance reserved for the royalty of a bee hive. It is a powerful beauty and longevity tonic. One taste and ~ZING!~ you will feel the power. If you can’t get it fresh and direct from a local beekeeper (it’s very susceptible to rancidity), then I recommend getting your hands on Bee Mana, the world’s first organic royal jelly powder.

Fish oil and algae oil: This is how we get those precious long chain omega-3 fatty acids that nourish the nervous system, put out inflammation, and put youth and moisture back into the skin. There are countless fish oil products out there that vary in quality, heavy metal content and ecological origin. I’ll let you do your research on that and decide for yourself what is best for you.

-Christian

P.S. Playing around with individual herbs is really fun. AND, having them all together in a balanced tried and true formula that’s simple to use is even better. I’m talking about my up and coming anti-aging productLongevity in a Bottle. Pre-order yourself a bottle NOW!

Before I go into the specific top herbs that beautify your skin in 30 days, there is an idea I want to express to you that is more important than any 1 herb: This idea is that:

Herbs are essential for one’s health. Period.

Even a most wholesome organic modern western diet will skimp on the herbs, or have herbs in small doses for flavoring only. You can take whatever nutritional path you are on, and just ADD HERBS IN! Herbs should have a BIG section in your food pyramid.

The herbs to ‘go to first’ are the tonic herbs which are adaptogenic herbs that tonify the body, are safe for daily use with no side effects, and can be used ongoingly for a lifetime of cumulative benefits.

Fresh schisandra berries galore!

1. Schisandra Berry

Schisandra Berry (Schisandra chinensis), also Schizandra, the “5-flavor berry,” is the most well-rounded-in-effect herb ever. Those 5 flavors (sour/astringent, sweet, bitter, salty, spicy/pungent,) correspond to a wide range of nutrients and effects on the organs of the body. Schisandra’s dominant sour and astringent flavor boosts liver cleansing and thus skin radiance because they are so closely related. Astringency locks in moisture for the skin and helps your body assimilate all other nutrition consumed with schisandra. A richly-red high antioxidant food and herb to be taken daily for beauty through the ages.

2. Horsetail

Horsetail (Equisetum arvenseEquisetum telmateia, and some other species of the Equisetum genus) is one of the highest bio-available-silica substances ever. And, silica is THE BEAUTY AND YOUTH MINERAL. An extract of a young horsetail plant gives the body the free silica it needs to regenerate tissue and make it soft, supple and strong. Silica is the main co-factor nutrient required in bone growth. The more organic silica you can get in your body the more your skin will be baby soft.

Dried goji berries

3. Goji Berry

A handful of delicious red-orange goji berries (Lycium barbarum and Lycium chinense) or a couple doses of goji berry extract a day is a tradition going back eons to create a youthening effect in the partaker.  A super-antioxidant, carotenoid-rich, polysaccharide-laden, flavonoid-dense superfood, goji does wonders for your inner and outer body. It’s not “just a berry.” Try them daily and experience the glow.

4. Eucommia

Eucommia (Eucommia ulmoides) bark is rich in a rubber/latex substance. An extract of this tissue, joint and skeletal repairing material promotes inner health and beauty and helps youthen the skin. An active constituent in Eucommia, aucubin, has been shown to protect the skin against UV radiation and helps prevent photo-aging.

The above 4 herbs + 54 of the other world’s greatest tonic herb concentrates are synergized in my new beautifying product, Longevity in a Bottle. I invite you to pre-order yourself a bottle TODAY!

Founder, Longevity Power Inc.

You can’t eat – or herbalize – your way to happiness. True happiness requires driving forces of: congruence between your mission (your inner calling) and your actions, heartfelt contribution, good doses of challenge, creative expression, connection with others, and lots of love.

BUT! With the amount of toxins and stress in the human experience these days and a dietary history that seriously lacked the building blocks for a thriving nervous system, healthy glands and vital organs, a “happy” immune system, and a beaming healthy heart, sometimes sustained happiness just isn’t chemically available.

It’s no wonder there is such a huge preponderance of the antidepressant SSRI’s (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) that medicate the population. Antidepressants have side effects, are addictive, never treat the actual base problem, and ultimately suck the sense of personal power and happiness right out of someone.

I digress. Your ancestors took pride in a rich life rich in herbs and took part in traditional herbal medicine of their corresponding successful human cultures. It is our birthright to get back to the basics – the top herbal basics that set your biochemstry up for happiness and make us more stress resistant.

Mucuna

The following top 5 herbs for happiness have evidence of thousands of years of usage in human history (I have also personally used them for years):

Mucuna

A top pick out of the multi-thousand-herb Ayurvedic system, the traditional bean pod extract of Mucuna pruriens contains serotonin, 5-HTP, and a whopping dose of the neurotransmitter precursor L-Dopa. L-Dopa converts to dopamine, which is required for proper brain function and is easily depleted by stress, drugs and alcohol. Best news: an extract usually tastes really good, like peanut powder with a kick.

Reishi mushrooms

Reishi

Reishi is the queen of mushrooms. After inoculating a log or dead plant matter, reishi produces a shiny red fruitbody. All parts of reishi (fruitbody, spores and mycelium) are rich in polysaccarides which plug into the receptor sites of your immune system and train it to be more intelligent. Read more about how reishi does that HERE.

Reishi has a particularly calming effect in the millions of subjects who take it daily. It makes for a very happy nervous system and seems to “work on you” cumulatively over months and years of taking it. It is the perfect spiritual growth tool. Reishi fruitbody tea and tincture are great, but the best bang is to get fruitbody extract powder and cracked-cell spores and take daily.

Like reishi, all medicinal mushrooms do wonders for the body. There are dozens but the next 2 to add in to your life after reishi to support happiness are wildcrafted chaga mushroom and wildcrafted poria mushroom.

Noni fruit

Noni

Noni fruit (Morinda citrifolia) is the top superfood of the Pacific coastal and island traditions. Noni contains many trace elements and a large amount of polysaccharides which are immune system food. Noni imparts vigor and will in those who consume it.

Fresh noni is best. But when you are away from the tropics where it grows a cold-extracted powder is awesome (and doesn’t have quite the sulfur taste as the fresh stuff)).

Dried goji berries

Goji Berry

Goji berry ain’t a raisin (no offense to grapes.) This orange gem is rich in carotenoids, polysacarides, all essential amino acids, trace minerals and vitamins. A handful of high quality dried but soft goji berries always impart a lift in mood in those that comply. To get more out of goji without the natural sugar content, an extract powder goes well with everything.

Ginseng

Ginseng

Ginseng is the most popular eastern herb in the west. But did you know that there are many kinds of ginseng? The main 2: Panax ginseng originates in Asia and American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius) grows wild in many places in North America. Ginseng’s phytochemicals are complex and after thousands of years of usage and thousands of scientific studies, it has been proven that it’s not one chemical that provides benefit, but all the chemicals of ginseng combined in a full-spectrum extract that provide bliss-enducing energy, immune system enhancement, and libido boosting power.

Here’s 5 more:

Polygala root – Known as the will-builder in taoist tonic herbalism. It relaxes the mind, calms the emotions, aids the sleep process, and all while boosting sexual vitality.

Red Asparagus root – Known as the “levitation herb,” this cooling substance tonifies the reproductive ability and makes one feel very light and serene.

St. John’s Wort – More than 30 double-blind studies show St. John’s Wort to be as effective as the prescription antidepressants Zoloft and Prozac but with far fewer side effects.

Kava – Bliss out all day safely with this herb. Decrease muscle tension and reduce stress and anxiety without lowering your mental faculties. Kava is fun.

Holy Basil – The green leafy adaptogen tonic is very antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory. A top ayurvedic herb, this herb is always associated with yogic bliss.

All the great tonic herbs and superfoods from around the world boost your body’s ability to sustain happiness and to feel a deep sense of energy and nourishment. The few great ones above truly embody happiness.

How to take these herbs

Have fun with these herbs – they are safe and best taken daily for life-long cumulative effects. Try top quality powders and tinctures from the various raw food vendors online.

I love combining these herbs into one elixir or smoothie. In fact, I have mastered doing this. I want to share my formula with you – the perfectly balanced herbal and superfood extract blend rich in most of the herbs mentioned above (and even more synergizing organic herbs not mentioned) – Longevity in a Bottle. Watch my video on it and pre-order your stash today to help me bring Longevity in a Bottle to market.

There is a category of nutrients that is NOT represented in a government’s Recommended Dietary Allowance: the polysaccharides.

Polysaccharides (multi-carbohydrate) aren’t just fiber, many of these “essential healing sugars” have complex structures that fit into the receptor sites of your immune system and train the immune system to do a better job. Countless studies have demonstrated that polysaccharides and herb extracts and superfood extracts high in polysaccharides promote a revitalizing amount of immune system support to humans and animals, help fight off mutagens and disease, and promote a healthy homeostasis within the body.

Reishi mushrooms

Medicinal mushrooms (Reishi, Chaga, Cordyceps, Shiitake, Lion’s Mane, Maitake, etc.) are the quintessential source of polysaccharides. Reishi and Chaga are considered the world’s greatest mushrooms. Therefore, anyone interested  in the immunological and revitalizing benefits of polysaccharides should go to extracts of these two mushrooms first and consume them everyday.

What really makes these herbs over the top is that they are truly tonics: you can take them every day with no negative side effects. They work immediately and cumulatively over a lifetime.

Reishi is the Queen of mushrooms and Chaga is King. Both are considered the mushrooms of immortality within the legend and lore of Traditional Chinese Medicine, specifically Taoist Tonic Herbalism.

Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum), after inoculating a tree or medium of dead plant matter with its mycelial growth, produces a beautiful shiny red fruitbody. The fruitbody (literally the fungi’s reproductive organ) and the spores it secretes are LOADED with polysaccarides and rare myco-chemicals that feed the immune system. Did you feed your immune system today? The subjective effect of reishi is particularly calming while deeply energizing. That isn’t a oxy-moronic statement. The best foods and herbs in the world should make you feel that way: deeply energized (without feeling stimulated) and mentally nourished and relaxed.

Chaga mushroom growing on a birch tree ready to harvest

Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) prefers to inoculate living trees, usually birch, in a mostly symbiotic (not parasitic or decomposing) relationship. Chaga is rich in polysaccarides and has countless Russian scientific studies to back its effects. Chaga is darkly pigmented with an ORAC (antioxidant scale) off the charts. It is perhaps the highest antioxidant herb ever. Both mushrooms are polypores, a variety of mushrooms which have tiny holes (or poly-pores) on their underside (instead of gills) which secrete spores. Polypores are considered very evolved and intelligent mushrooms (compared to mildews and yeasts).

ALL MEDICINAL MUSHROOMS FIGHT CANDIDA (despite the fallacies you’ve heard)! In order for a mushroom to survive in the wild and claim a tree for itself, it must have antifungal properties to compete with the other fungi. A pure extract of reishi and chaga has nothing in it to feed candida overgrowth or other fungal infections – it can only fend off such overgrowths in the body.

It’s ideal for everyone to consume reishi and chaga everyday for a robust immune system, long life, mental calm and clarity, and peak physical performance. Speaking of such benefits, I’d like to share my Longevity in a Bottle project with you (because I need your help!)

Longevity in a Bottle is the culmination of my last 10 years in the conscious organic food industry… it’s an epic new organic superfood product that contains 58 of the world’s greatest adaptogenic herbs and superfoods including organic reishi fruitbody extract, spores and mycelium, and wildcrafted chaga fruitbody extract and mycelium! Let my exciting video explain further: http://LongevityPower.com.

We often think of our body as a unit which needs certain minimums of macronutrients and micronutrients. But, it is a whole unit made up of interconnected parts: each part thrives on notable nutrients, many of which nutrients are not listed in a governments’ Recommended Dietary Allowance.

I'm a white blood cell, hear me roar... or peep?

It’s strange: Many of these body parts and systems are just not talked about with regard to our daily diet. Each system of your body has spent a lifetime malnourished due to the modern westernized diet which lacks variety, trace minerals, medicinal substances, and is loaded with toxins.

Let’s get right up close to the most important system in your body today: your immune system (Well, it’s tied in first place with your endocrine (hormones) system.)

This complex army needs to be fed daily to fulfill its lifelong double-sided challenge:

1. How to neutralize pathogens: because to not means the body is in a HYPO-immunoogical state, susceptible to colds, flues, candida overgrowth and more severe disease-causing pathogens.

AND

2. How to rid the body of (while remaining “cool”) toxins and allergens: because to not means the body is in a HYPER-immune state, causing inflammation and autoimmune takeover.

Every moment your body has a new micro-terrain of pathogens, allergens, and toxins to deal with, so your immune system must be able to fulfill both ends of the spectrum (Do: attack foreign invaders; Do not attack human self) without going out of balance (hypo and hyper).

Cool, we’ll just take some immuno-stimulating drugs and some immuno-suppressants, and we’ll be balanced, right? NO! Thank goddess nature found a way: We must consume natural substances which have a DOUBLE-DIRECTIONAL effect on the immune system. Did you feed your immune system today?

Chaga mushroom growing on a birch tree ready to harvest

ENTER: Medicinal mushrooms and adaptogenic herbs – most notable the top dogs of the fungi kingdom Reishi mushroom and Chaga mushroom. Hundreds upon hundreds of scientific studies, thousands of years and millions of people’s multi-generational use has placed these mushrooms as the most successful immune system. enhancements of humanity.

In PART 2 I will be discussing why everyone should be consuming reishi and chaga everyday for a robust immune system, long life, mental calm and clarity, and peak physical performance. As you patiently wait, I’d like to share my Longevity in a Bottle project with you (because I need your help!)

1 – 2 tablespoons zeolite powder (deeply detoxes environmental toxins from your body)

1 – 2 tablespoons richly brewed herbal tea of prepared rhemannia and shisandra berries (such a great “grilled” burger flavor, not to mention youth-building power)

1 tablespoon medicinal mushroom powder of choice (immunity with meaty flavor)

When somewhat smooth, add:

1 cup chopped peeled organic onion

1/2 cup chopped fresh organic leafy herbs of choice (cilantro is great! so is parsley!)

Blend lightly for 10 seconds or until onion and herbs are mixed but still somewhat chunky. Using a spatula, make over a dozen 4-5 inch patties on sheeted dehydrator trays or parchment paper covered baking tray. Dehydrate in dehydrator at 145*F for 2 hours or place in a convection oven at the lowest heat possible (avoid going over 160*F. If your highest setting is much higher simply turn off the heat after 20 minutes but keep the convection fan on. Reheat as needed.) for 4 hours. Flip and continue to dehydrate in dehydrator/oven for at least 1 hour before serving or up to 12 more hours for a chewier burger.

Serve warm with a salad and other organic richly nutritious recipes of choice.
